Candidacy Announced
Tullahoma businessman and ATA engineer, Greg Sandlin, has announced his candidacy for Tullahoma Alderman in the upcoming election to be held August 6.
In making his announcement, Sandlin said he wants to serve because "simply put, I see it has a way for me to give back to a community that has given so much to me and my family. It is an opportunity to serve."
Sandlin is an active member of Grace Baptist Church and formerly of Kings Cross Church, and has served as Chair of Stewardship as well as on fundraising and staff search committees. Sandlin has been an active member of the Tullahoma Noon Rotary Club where he currently serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer and Chair of Service Projects, which supports such local projects as 5 Loaves 4 Kids, Boy Scouts, etc. He is also a member of the Tullahoma Area Chamber of Commerce, Middle Tennessee Business Network, Arnold Community Council, and hosts the local cable/radio show "Perspectives" on Lighttube/WMSR ThunderRadio.
He has loved the opportunities to get involved locally in the professional, social, and political arenas. "I have had the privilege to travel extensively. I've lived on four continents, traveled to over 20 nations, and spent time in 47 of our United States. Tullahoma immediately became home for us, especially with the birth of our second daughter here in 2002. I have a strong sense of what we have here, and I would like to help this community continue to be the 'rising star' that it is."
Sandlin is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Tennessee, Texas and Ohio. He serves as Principal Engineer with ATA at AEDC in the Environmental Group managing soil and groundwater remediation projects. In 2003, Sandlin created a local small business to provide common sense solutions to the environmental stewardship responsibilities of area businesses. The company has expanded into grant writing services for start-up alternative energy companies. Sandlin has secured more than $1.6M dollars in grant and loan guarantees for his clients in Tennessee, Alabama and Texas.
As Alderman, Greg Sandlin will support friendliness toward new and expanding businesses; growth by keeping taxes low and not increasing property taxes; fiscal responsibility in city spending/borrowing; excellence in education; and open and transparent communication with the citizens of our city.
Greg is married to Christine, originally of Shelbyville, Tennessee and they have two daughters, Olivia and Elise. "My wife and I chose to move to Tullahoma eight years ago. Christine is originally from Bedford County and we were looking to move near her family. I had job offers in Nashville, Murfreesboro and at AEDC. The choice was clear, the job at AEDC was an excellent fit, and Tullahoma was the right place for us to raise our family. We have two daughters, ages 11 and 7 and are clearly in the kid-raising phase of life. Tullahoma's sense of community, emphasis of education, quality of life, and low cost of living were all reasons we chose to live here."
"I would be honored to serve as a Tullahoma Alderman and appreciate your vote on August 6th (early voting July 17 – August 1). My training and 20 years experience as a civil/environmental engineer, small business owner, and church/service organization leader have prepared me for the challenges facing our Alderman Board today. I will work hard to keep Tullahoma as Tennessee's 'rising star'. To learn more about my campaign, please visit www.gregsandlin.com or try my cell phone at 931-273-8955."
